Nowadays, better don't try to rely on kids. I'm going to make sure I have enough for retirement. You can count your lucky stars if they don't prove to be a burden.

Actually the 2nd statement is not always true. One of the reasons why so many old couples are damned pok kai is because they spent all the money raising the children. And the children may have difficulties of their own in getting by, especially in today's climate. Then how? Plenty of destitute old folks have children and grandchildren even. Doesn't help them much as their children are strggling to support their own families.

Seriously I'm extremely disillusioned by the behavior of kids these days that I really dread to have one of my own (though I don't think I have much choice on that one) Seems that pets are less of a headache, and gives you less stress and not as draining on your pocket.

And the government wonders why most married couples don't want to have kids these days. Laughing I dunno.... seems that the higher educated you are, the less likely that you want kids? At least that is the trend I'm seeing amongst my friends.

The higher educated you are, the more likely you are to think things through and do your sums first, I guess. And perhaps you have higher expectations in terms of quality of life.

For ministers and MPs, different. They get paid so much they can have 4 to 5 kids without much problem.

I really do not understand why its usually the lower income families that have so many children, then live a hand to mouth existence struggling to support these kids. Neutral

I have always believe its how the parents teach their kids. there may be some environmental influences, but in life no matter how we guard against them, there might be unexpected things to happen

so, i believe whether couples want to have kids should depend on whether they love kids, not whether how troublesome kids can be or draining on their pockets

who knows, prolly our parents now also regretted having us in the first place

Other than financial concerns and whether a couple likes kids or not, I also feel that another question needs to be asked. And that is if they really want to raise their child in their current environment.

I know for a fact that I do not want to raise a child in Singapore.

Yeah... that's the problem. You do your sums and realise how scary it is and you start to hold back and I guess everyone do hope to have a certain level of quality of life

That's because they don't do their sums and figure that they will get by once it happens.

The problem lies between wanting to sacrifice the current quality of life and giving some up to look after the kids. Yes, unexpected things happen.

So SO loves kids but I see them as tiny pests with loud voices and looking at my nieces, that is enough to put anyone off on having kids Laughing They even scared my SO

Well, I do know as a fact that my parents love kids so that is a different story Wink

Truthfully, while i see kids as cute, i dont think i am going to have one coz i dont know how to handle them

Its the gospel truth that kids are a rambunctious lot. Its natural that they will run around screaming and playing

The problem is, my cousin is very strict with them but they know they won't be punished at their grandparents place because they are really really extremely cute and good looking kids (I think they will be man-killers when they grow up) So they use it to their advantage and it's really Surprised My cousin even switched her job to part-time basis (only goes to work 3 days a week, though she is still drawing her same pay coz her boss likes her ) to look after them as they are difficult to handle and the maids can't handle them alone

So the dreaded scenerio. Strict parents but kids that still turn out as monsters Sad

Go home also cannot sleep properly. How would you feel if something that has been planned for weeks and many man hours invested into sweating out the details suddenly had to be redone, from scratch. Mad
